I agree that the Developer Toolbar for IE is much better than the FF version. And Devel is very useful for checking pageload but it consumes so much RAM by itself that I would only recommend using it sparingly, and on non-production sites or in maintenance mode. But honestly the most valuable tool for Drupal development is a little thing called print_r().

It's been quite a week :) I jacked up some stuff and decided to get this out on Sunday... oddly enough, it's my most popular post ever.
